Abstract:
Axions are one of the most popular Beyond the Standard Model particles. We will discuss their motivation and why generic new physics models contain axion like particles. We then discuss two drastically different ways to search for the axion. In the first approach, we discuss how heavy QCD axions might be looked for using timing information at the high luminosity LHC. In the second approach, we show how axion strings can act as an Aharonov Bohm effect to circularly polarized photons, giving unique signals in the cosmic microwave background.
